Positions: Field Crew Positions
Type: full-time seasonal, starts mid April to early May, work ends early to mid November.
Family farm: Ice Cap Organics
Location: Pemberton, British Columbia (near Whistler BC)

Job Overview

We are looking for someone strong, hard working, positive, and self motivated to work with us this season on our 5 acre vegetable farm in Pemberton, BC.

The Farm

We started Ice Cap Organics in 2009 and right away it became a full time endeavour for both of us. We have been certified organic and family owned and operated from the start. We grow over 50 vegetable varieties in the field and in a few greenhouses, and have added strawberries, fresh cut flowers and 100 laying hens to the operation. We believe in growing in harmony with the ecosystem and being a positive part of our community. We sell our vegetables at two busy Vancouver markets (West End on Saturdays, and Kitsilano on Sundays) and through a local Harvest Box Program throughout the Sea to Sky. Working on the farm we generally have ourselves, Delaney and Alisha, and three employees. We also have two children ages 6 and 8, a Maremma Dog named Coco, and two cats Pepper and Kita.

Job Description

Early spring jobs include planting seedling in the propagation house, transplanting seedling in the field, preparing beds, setting up irrigation, row covering crops, weeding...

Late Spring and Summer harvesting, trellising and mainting cukes and tomatoes in greenhouse, washing and processing the veggies, weeding...

End of summer and Fall jobs include harvesting, washing and processing veggies, cover cropping, farm clean up...

There are also lots of odd end jobs throughout the season such as feeding laying hens and washing eggs, greenhouse moving, irrigation, BCA walk behind tractor operating, and much more.

Must be:

  • Hard working and able to keep a fast pace
  • Positive
  • Able to work with others
  • Able to be independent and self motivated enough to be productive on your own
  • Able to lift 40 pounds
  • Able to work on hands and knees most of the day
  • Love working outdoors rain, shine, bugs, mud...
  • Feel passionately about growing organic vegetables
  • Have some previous farm and/or other labour work experience

Positions start mid April to begining og May (depending on snow melt and wettness of field) and runs until end of October to Mid November, depending on when winter comes.

We offer 40+ hours per week at a starting pay of $15 to $16/hr depending on farming experience. We work Monday through Friday until the end of October/Beginning November.

We have a one bedroom suite on the farm for rent for $650/month all amenities included.

How to apply

Email us your resume with references and a cover letter stating why you want to work with us and your relative previous work experience. Ideally we would then like to meet applicants at the farm or winter market for an interview, but if that is not possible, through Skype would work as well.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Alisha and Delaney
