Term: April 23rd or April 29th, 2019 – October 27th, 2019; full-time (5 days per week on the island)
Salary: $135 per day, plus year end wedding tips, biweekly vacation payout

Overview of Camp Fircom
Camp Fircom is located on the south-eastern tip of Gambier Island, a short water taxi ride from Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver. The heart of the non-profit is running summer camp programs, and in addition the venue also operates a year-round retreat centre hosting weddings, conferences, work retreats, adult programs, congregational retreats and other groups. It is a 120-acre waterfront property which connects to kilometers of hiking trails, has three beaches and lots of recreational opportunities. The mission of Camp Fircom is to create communities of belonging and experiences to grow on.
Camp Fircom’s kitchen is about 4 years old and has a variety of quality equipment to execute meals for groups from 12 – 200. We take great pride in offering simple, homemade and delicious food to all our guests, whether it be summer camp or a wedding. We have a goal in offering more vegetarian-based meals to our guests, and offering quality customer service. We are a nut-aware kitchen and cater to a variety of allergies and dietary needs. We have a ½ acre garden and orchard and upkeep a small flock of chickens. The produce from the garden often comes into the kitchen to be used for delicious fresh food for our guests.
Camp Fircom is an off-the-grid location which means that all kitchen waste must be processed onsite. The kitchen team takes part in the responsibility of taking out the compost to the farm, cleaning and properly sorting recycling, and bagging and storing garbage so it can get it removed from the island.
Nature & Scope
Working with the Head Chef and Sous Chef, the JR Sous Chef will be responsible for supporting the smooth day-to-day operations of the Food Service Department. The JR Sous Chef will provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff members of the kitchen team and any volunteers that are working in the kitchen.
Duties and Responsibilities
This job is on Gambier Island and will require you to be on site five days of the week. The position starts April 23rd or April 29th, 2019 until October 27th, 2019. Shared accommodation; max 1 roommate, can be supplied and meals when working/living on site. Training will be given on site.
