A provincial non-profit, the mission of BC Association of Farmers’ Markets (BCAFM) is to support, develop and promote member farmers' markets across all regions of British Columbia. BCAFM is a unified voice for 145+ member farmers’ markets, home to over 4,000 farmers, food processors and artisans who share a common vision of ‘BC Grow, Make, Bake’. In addition to many other exciting projects and initiatives, BCAFM is proud to lead the BC Farmers’ Market Trail campaign and deliver the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program.

About this Role: Projects and Communications Coordinator

Can you easily move between multiple projects, are a self-starter, and can also work collaboratively with a team and build meaningful relationships with members? We are seeking an organized and highly detailed Projects and Communications Coordinator to join in the work we do so local food continues to thrive in BC!

Job Summary:

The Projects and Communications Coordinator is the main point of contact for BCAFM and is responsible for coordinating and executing marketing and communications activities and campaigns, outreach and public engagement, and member focused capacity building and education activities.


Marketing & Communications

  • Oversee and deliver a dynamic, ongoing social media presence for the BCAFM on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others
  • Coordinate effective strategies for communicating with and engaging members in BCAFM activities, including contact management, email, surveys, social media and site visits
  • Coordinate the design and production of capacity building and marketing collateral, ensuring they align with BCAFM organizational objectives and brand style guide
  • Coordinate all BCAFM communications including two websites (member and consumer facing, annual print directories and brochures, other marketing collateral, conference communications, social media, member communications, newsletter, and public relations
  • Coordinate promotions of BCAFM Member Farmers’ Markets to key stakeholders and the public, including leading province wide and regional campaigns such as BC Farmers’ Market Trail, Buy BC and social media campaigns
  • Work collaboratively with Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program staff on communications and promotions
  • Support grant and sponsorship activities, including grant reports and coordinate funder and sponsorship recognition and benefits
  • Research, write and edit content for various BCAFM publications, e-newsletters, resource materials, websites, promotional materials, and other documents
  • Complete graphic design projects (ex. conference program, annual report, graphics)
  • Write media releases
  • When needed, take photos at BCAFM events and activities

Outreach and Public Engagement

  • Plan and coordinate special events and educational and capacity building activities and resources (ex. webinars, workshops, trainings)
  • Attend tradeshows and other outreach events as a BCAFM representative

Membership and Stakeholder Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with Member Farmers’ Markets Members in accordance with BCAFM values and Strategic Plan
  • Coordinate delivery of effective capacity building activities, tools and resources to support and develop Member Farmers’ Markets including, webinars, workshops, knowledge-sharing, mentoring, and other initiatives
  • Support the annual Farmers’ Market Membership renewal processdrive, including communications, eligibility assessment and administration
  • Support Farmers’ Market Members in understanding and adhering to BCAFM bylaws and policies, and key government regulations, legislation and guidelines, such as food safety, organics, non-profit governance and others
  • Provide customer service to BCAFM members and stakeholders, including inquiries about membership policy and guidelines
  • Deliver funder and sponsor benefits and maintain funder and sponsor relationships
  • Manage and maintain membership and stakeholder databases
  • Respond to and direct general email and phone inquiries to the appropriate person

BCAFM Conference

  • Create and execute promotional strategy for the annual BCAFM conference (including graphics, social media, print and online ads, emails)
  • Design and coordinate the printing of the conference program
  • Support in the delivery of conference funder and sponsorship recognition and benefits
  • Offer additional support as needed in the planning and delivery of the conference

Other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience in a similar role
  • Education or experience working in marketing, communications or other related disciplines
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about the farmers’ markets and the local food sector sector and food systems in British Columbia


  • Organized and strong project management skills
  • Comprehensive social media experience creating content and managing social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Excellent working knowledge grasp of web-based communications programs including, Word Press, Survey Monkey, Mail Chimp, Eventbrite, Go to Webinar, Adobe Creative Suite, Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Excellent grasp working knowledge of Mac computer operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Google suite, online file sharing systems, database, contact management systems and ability to quickly grasp new software
  • Graphic design and photography experience an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a happy disposition, ability to exercise diplomacy, maintain a positive focus, and use discretion with confidential information
  • Flexible and collaborative work ethic
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of non-profit sector and awareness of policies and guidelines related to farmers’ markets is an asset
  • Ability to travel within the province
