Position: Social Justice and Advocacy Coordinator
Organization: The Table Community Food Centre
Location: Perth, Ontario

We are seeking to fill a full time position for our Advocacy and Social Justice Coordinator. Primary Responsibilities of the Position

  • Coordinate the delivery of the Community Action Training program designed to build the capacity of community members to become effective change-makers.
  • Coordinate, train, support and supervise our team of Peer Advocates.
  • Support our Community Action Network in developing and implementing community engagement and political advocacy activities and campaigns associated with food security, housing, poverty and social justice.
  • In conjunction with the Peer Advocates and Community Action Network, implement workshops and training opportunities related to housing and other social justice issues.
  • Support The Table to further develop socially just, anti-opressive and anti-racist approaches across the organization.
  • Network and build connections with other agencies and activist groups to support the Table’s social justice and advocacy programming.
  • Actively participate in program evaluation.
  • Develop and monitor program plans and budgets.
  • Develop funding proposals, and write reports to funders.
  • Participate in broader activities at The Table including: planning, fundraising, public relations, communications, special events and team building activities.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate possesses:

  • A passion for social justice and community organizing;
  • Knowledge of the resources and social service agencies available to people in Lanark County;
  • Knowledge of and experience navigating social assistance programs;
  • An understanding of individual and systemic causes of food-insecurity and poverty, and mechanism to address them through individual and collective action;
  • Supervisory and team building experience;
  • Demonstrated abilities in adult education, popular education and group facilitation;
  • Enthusiasm for growing, preparing and sharing “good food”;
  • Strong written, verbal and social media communication skills;
  • An independent work ethic and ability to constructively work in a team-environment.
