Position: MarketMobile Driver – Part time

The MarketMobile is a not-for-profit mobile grocery store which operates out of a retro-fit trailer and truck. The MarketMobile brings fresh, affordable, and culturally-appropriate vegetables and fruit to eight Ottawa neighbourhoods that have limited access to healthy food.


The MarketMobile team is seeking an outgoing, positive, hard-working and motivated individual to operate the MarketMobile. The MarketMobile driver is responsible for the safe operation of the MarketMobile infrastructure and market delivery. The driver conducts this service in compliance with all applicable transportation regulations, minimizing on-the-road costs and avoiding damage to equipment or produce, and with respect for their own personal safety and the safety of others on the road. The driver ensures customer service commitments at all times.


Program development and operations

  • Carefully inspects truck and trailer equipment prior to use.
  • Plans his/her trip and manages his/her road time to ensure MarketMobile remains on schedule.
  • Acts as team lead for students, volunteers and site liaisons for operating logistics such as selling produce, restocking and cleaning.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and produce.
  • Sells produce, assists customers, and ensures produce is stocked.
  • Provide supervision and training to volunteers as needed.
  • Supports MarketMobile image with the communities by maintaining a neat, clean personal appearance and adopting a professional and courteous manner with community members and staff.
  • Manages fuel cards in his/her possession.
  • Actively participates in team meetings.
  • Monthly Good Food Box Deliveries.
  • Ensure all volunteer and client files, forms and documents are completed and safely stored, according to legislation

Safety Responsibilities

  • Practices effective driving techniques, and adheres to speed limits at all times.
  • Provides immediate verbal report to supervisor on all accidents and/or incidents, while at the scene wherever possible. Provides a complete written report within 24 hours.
  • Maintains a clean driving record and up to date personal license. (Provides current abstract upon request).
  • Follows safe work practices, including bending, lifting and carrying procedures and slip and fall prevention. In the event of an injury, reports the injury to supervisor immediately.


  • Professional driving experience with truck and trailers.
  • Valid class G driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Fluency in English; French and other languages an asset.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Punctual, reliable and detail orientated.

Working conditions

The MarketMobile driver position is required to be present on the MarketMobile minimum one day per week. The MarketMobile driver is also responsible for monthly Good Food Box deliveries. The MarketMobile operates year round and therefore the driver is required to work in variable weather conditions. Physical requirements The MarketMobile driver position is physically demanding, the incumbent is required to stand for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects on a regular basis, and do repetitive tasks.

Wages: $17.00 per hour

Must be available afternoon and evenings Tuesday through Thursday with possibility of additional hours.
