Position: Executive Director

Loving Spoonful (LS) has been serving the Kingston community since 2008, connecting people to good food and one another. Gathering together to share good food provides limitless opportunities for building meaningful community connections. LS is dedicated to creating spaces for social inclusion through food, and we actively collaborate with organizations across the region to deliver hands-on programming.

Loving Spoonful’s programs include the reclamation and delivery of surplus fresh food from grocery stores, restaurants, farms and farmers markets; the school garden and classroom-based GROW Project at 21 schools across KFL&A; and convening people in Community Kitchens to learn and share cooking skills.

Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive Director represents and leads the organization, advancing the mission of Loving Spoonful and advocating for policy change to achieve social and economic justice. The Executive Director is committed to the organization’s guiding principles and is passionate about building resilient communities through food. A love for good food, a genuine interest in people and determination to succeed are key attributes of the ED.


  • Advocate for the mission and values of Loving Spoonful, championing positive change in the areas of food security, poverty reduction, social inclusion and community health
  • Lead, coach, develop and retain Loving Spoonful employees; implement learning, training, skills/competency enhancement programs and work process assessments
  • Develop and manage a diverse portfolio of revenue streams to achieve Loving Spoonful’s mission
  • Identify and complete grant submissions through corporate, government or group fund opportunities
  • Develop and expand collaborative working partnerships
  • Prepare an annual budget and create a corresponding operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization
  • Enable and support the Board of Directors to fulfill its governance responsibilities, and ensure the Board has enough information and other resources to carry out its fiduciary duties


  • 5 years of professional leadership experience in a complex environment
  • Completed Post-secondary education
  • Demonstrated experience leading a staff and volunteer teams as well as working with Board of Directors, donors, and the public
  • Track record in fundraising success
  • Ability to communicate messages in a professional and engaging manner designed to compel action
  • A strategic thinker able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and schedules
