Overview: Green Fire Farm is seeking energetic and positive farm apprentices for our 2017 growing season. We are looking for individuals or couples who are motivated to help our farm team harvest top quality, certified organic vegetables and to provide care for our mix of healthy, pasture-raised livestock. Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn many aspects of small-scale market farming through hands-on training with our experienced farm team.
About us: We are a family owned, 40 acre farm located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. We raise mixed vegetables, small fruits, hay, pasture-raised pigs, and laying hens. River swimming and the trans-Canada trail are nearby, as is a vibrant downtown with coffee shops, bookstores, a summer music scene, and more.
Work-learn tasks: Apprentices will work alongside our lead farmer with 20 years experience, focusing on the following list of work-learn tasks as the season and their farming skills develop
Qualifications: No prior farming experience is necessary, but those applicants with previous outdoor work and/or off-grid living experience will be most seriously considered. Applicants do need to be physically and mentally fit given the rigours of outdoor working conditions and the challenges of living and working in a farm setting.
Accommodations: Large, clean, and private rooms in a converted barn that is off-grid and located near a beautiful riparian area on our farm. Apprentices share kitchen facilities, a compost toilet, solar shower, and have access to free wireless and laundry facilities. We provide produce and other farm goods for apprentices to cook, depending on their dietary preferences.
