Green Fire Farm is a certified organic, 40-acre farm on Vancouver Island. Our farm team (lead farmer + field crew) grows a diverse mix of vegetables and fruits, raises livestock in rotation, and provides fresh, high quality foods to people who share our vision for a vibrant regional food system.
For the 2019 main growing season we are offering three types of field crew positions: 1st year field crew member for those with no prior farming experience, field crew leader and greenhouse/project leader positions for those with solid previous farming experience (minimum one full season) and great references.
The field crew leader position is intended as a full-time and full season position with the ideal candidate available from roughly mid-April through the end of September 2019. First year field crew and project leader positions offer some flexibility to include part-time and partial growing season commitments. Some weekend and evening work will be required of all field crew on a regular and rotating basis during the peak market and harvest season (May-September).
Our field crew pay range of $12.65/hour to a max of $14/hour is based on previous experience and on proven capacity to master tasks and take on new responsibilities.
Strong candidates for any of our field crew positions will have a physical and mental fitness level well matched for farm fieldwork. If you have no previous farming experience, a few ways to demonstrate this important match of preparation and ability for farming include prior working experience in outdoor and all-weather conditions, such as tree planting and landscaping. Do not hesitate to apply if you have any other types of outdoor work or volunteer experience that can show your capacity to work hard, continuously improve, and keep smiling through all weather conditions.
