We are Changing the Way We Eat! Poppy Innovations has a social mandate to reduce the incidence of obesity for children and adults in our community by empowering them to develop food skills and nutritional knowledge for making healthier eating choices.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for developing and planning programs offered to the community and community service organizations and schools. This position is instrumental in overseeing and engaging a team of Educators responsible for delivery of these programs.

This is a part-time position for 25hr/week 8:30 am to 1:30 pm on Monday to Friday. Additional hours are available for teaching programs. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required for events or meetings.

The Program Coordinator will facilitate programming that empowers participants with the knowledge and skills to eat healthy. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about health promotion, education and possesses strong skills in communication, program development and experience in bringing about positive social change outcomes.

What you will do:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement food skills and nutrition programs for targeted participant groups, including our Edible Education program and private bookings
  • Develop and facilitate programming for children aged 4+, adults and school classes
  • Establish a safe and inclusive space for participants to learn
  • Create and update program resources such as handouts and manuals
  • Create and administer systems for program development, coordination and facilitation
  • Measure and evaluate program impact through support of data collection and reporting
  • Coordinate Educator staff meetings, events and training as appropriate
  • Role model professional behavior and positive communication with participants, volunteers and partners
  • Represent Poppy Innovations in the community
  • Interview, screen and supervise assigned placement students and volunteers

What you bring:

  • Diploma or degree in a related field of study (health, education, community development)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with community related programs and community outreach
  • Culinary and nutritional knowledge is needed
  • Experience working with volunteers and supervisory skills is an asset
  • Current First Aid and Food Safety certification is required
  • A clear Police check including vulnerable sector check is required and will be paid for by Poppy Innovations
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, teach and empower children and adults to engage in positive change
  • Excellent ability to train and manage staff, and demonstration of interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
