Position: Food Service and Training Manager
Organization: Riverdale Hub
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Full-time position

Reports to the Executive Director

Working with a variety of programs within the Riverdale Immigrant Women’s Centre the (Food Service Manager), is responsible for the following areas:

Overall Responsibilities

  • Smooth operation of all revenue generating business streams – café, catering, co-working and event space
  • Process re-engineering of current practices that impact the outcomes of specific programs and services
  • Leading research projects and programs dedicated to improving the status of marginalized women within the hospitality sector

Revenue Generation

  • Works with café manager to review current practices, menu items, and costing to ensure profitability
  • Develop catering menus and practices to expand current client base- this will include developing checklists and standards
  • Create marketing program that focuses on utilizing social media to increase client base
  • Make recommendations for improvements that will result in more efficient and cost- effective service provision
  • Work with marketing coordinator to update marketing materials

Training Program Oversight

  • Update curriculum for hospitality and food service training programs
  • Connect with industry to increase opportunities for training program participants
  • Oversee the implementation of the training operational guide for the intake, training and evaluation of participants

Project Lead

  • Connect with industry leaders to support a Status of Women Canada project focused on increasing economic security for women in the food service and restaurant industry
  • Lead Advisory Committee and coordinate bi-weekly meetings
  • Ensure communication with stakeholders through preparation of meeting minutes and agendas
  • Develop timeline and schedules to ensure project deliverables are met
  • Establish working groups, and assist with focus groups and outreach to gain broad perspectives and give voice to women with lived experience
  • Report progress to key stakeholders through quarterly reviews


  • Experienced in operating a food service establishment with emphasis on café and catering operations
  • Project management and process improvement experience – lean six sigma or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of industry practice and standards i.e. health and safety standards
  • Degree in business or management or demonstrated operating and management experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to engage with various stakeholders within the organization to build a solid and cohesive team environment
  • Marketing and social media expertise
  • Teaching or training experience
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
  • Knowledge of GBA, anti-oppression and intersectional analysis
  • All other duties as assigned
