Position: Dairy Goat Barn Manager, Milker and Farm Labour
Organization: Green Valley Farms
Location: Dalston, Ontario (10 minutes north of Barrie)
Type: Full time, 5 days/week
Salary: commensurate with experience and commitment. $1600. to 2500. / month.
Housting: We provide accommodation on site (a private room in a shared century farmhouse, utilities, internet, laundry), discounts.
The Farm: We are a diversified fourth generation farm with Black Angus cattle and Saanen Dairy goat herd.
Husbandry and daily care for the goats (feeding, bedding, water, kid birthing, kid care and management, and milking on a daily basis)
In consultation with farm manager/owner, development and oversight of herd management and milk production plans
Training and supervision of dairy barn personnel/milkers
Ensuring proper sanitization and operation of milking equipment
General oversight over health and well-being of the goats, including promoting best management practices, ethical animal treatment
General oversight of the barn maintenance including repairs, manure removal and bedding, etc.
Ensuring the maintenance of good record keeping for both husbandry purposes (e.g. breeding, kidding and vaccination events, health concerns, etc.
Milking experience with goats or cows an asset.
Farm work experience an asset.
Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors under varying weather conditions
Able to follow direction well and work efficiently and independently
Be a team player
Honest, hard-working and reliable
Enthusiastic, can-do attitude and be adaptable
Desire to live and work on a farm and expect that farm life is hard yet rewarding work you can love.
If you don’t have goat experience, a keen willingness to learn what is required for both good husbandry and care as well accepted sanitary practices for milk intended for human consumption is essential.
