Position: Workshop Facilitator – Boîte à Lunch

About the NDG Food Depot: Founded in 1986, the NDG Food Depot is a community-based non-profit organization that works collaboratively with its community to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in NDG and the surrounding areas in a manner that ensures dignity, community engagement and the development of human potential.

Les Ateliers Boîte à Lunch is an edible education and food security program serving youth and families in NDG. A series of free cooking and nutrition workshops is offered to elementary and high school students in neighborhood schools and community centers, during which participants prepare the contents of a healthy lunch box. Families are also invited to participate in community cooking workshops in neighborhood community centers.

We are currently looking to hire two (2) part-time Workshop Facilitators. These animators will facilitate after-school cooking workshops for children in grades 4 and 5 and teens in high school.

Responsibilities / Tasks :

  • Facilitation of cooking and nutrition workshops for children and teens: 3 or 4 workshops per week for 10 weeks;
  • Communication with participants and program partners, including the participants’ parents;
  • Transfer of cooking skills and nutrition knowledge to workshop participants;
  • Ensure a safe and hygienic environment for participants;
  • Participate in team meetings (including 2 training sessions in mid-February), and facilitate collaboration among team members;
  • Contribute to the development, planning, and evaluation of the workshops and program;
  • Facilitate the final party for workshop participants;
  • Occasional animation of community cooking workshops, depending on availability.


  • Bilingual French/English (additional language an asset)
  • Experience working with youth (children and teens);
  • Ability to interact positively with youth of various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds;
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant families, and appreciation of cultural knowledge;
  • Ability to interact positively with the parents of participants;
  • Interest in cooking and nutrition;
  • Good cooking skills and ability to transmit skills to youth in an empowering way;
  • Capacity for effective teamwork and comfort in a community environment;
  • Knowledge of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce community is an asset;
  • First aid certification and/or MAPAQ food handler certification is an asset;
  • Sense of initiative and creativity encouraged, along with a passion for good food!


The facilitator must be available for workshop animation according to one of the two following schedules:

In addition, the facilitator should have certain flexibility to do preparation work from home, and must be available for the following events:

  • Team meeting every 2 weeks – Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 PM (5 meetings total)
  • End-of-session party for participants – Friday, May 5th from 3 to 8 PM.
  • Community kitchen workshops – There will be the possibility to facilitate workshops with adults and families. In particular, the facilitator will be asked to commit to at least one Saturday workshop during the fall season.

Contract Conditions:

12-week contract (mid-February to mid-May 2017); 15$/hour; with possibility of contract renewal. The facilitator will be hired as a part-time employee and will receive pro-rated benefits (vacation pay, sick and personal days, and medical stipend) according to their hours worked.
