FARMERS LOOKING FOR A VERY SPECIAL COUPLE
Position: Farm Couple for Heritage Pig Farm
Type: live-in opportunity with living expenses, accom., food, weekly stipend, training, more (see below)
Farm: Upper Canada Heritage Meat
Location: Leeds-Grenville, near Brockville & Ottawa, Eastern Ontario
Upper Canada Heritage Farm is looking for a couple to join us in residence on our 100 acre farm in Eastern Ontario.
We raise the Large Black Pig – a heritage breed of endangered swine – with about 300 pigs living outdoors on rotating pastures. This farm relies on muscle over machine in the day-to-day care of the pigs. We raise animals for meat with the philosophy that a happy pig raised in a healthy outdoor environment produces the very best pork. We indulge their needs and respect their natural tendencies.
We need a dedicated couple to care for the animals with the same commitment that we have. We will teach you everything you need to know about raising heritage pigs. We offer you the opportunity to establish your own market garden, put down some roots and live your dream of independence.
We are looking for a couple who want to commit to a life of farming, living off the beaten track, being innovative, open and creative, not afraid to try the untried. Ultimately, we are looking for that special couple who will eventually take over our farm business.
You will ideally bring a basic knowledge of carpentry and mechanics. We have a variety of field huts and barns, always needing repair. We have an ATV and a tractor that need regular maintenance, and about 10 kms. of electric fence to maintain.
We cover all your living expenses, offering accommodation, use of our car, and providing all your food, as well as a weekly stipend of $200 for each of you. In exchange, you will work 7 days per week with time off as we can provide it.
Upper Canada Heritage Farm is located 20 minutes SW of Merrickville. Contact Barbara at:
