Position: Indigenous Language & Education Support
Organization: Green Thumbs Growing Kids
Location: Toronto, Ontario
We are looking for occasional contractors to fill an Educational Assistant role in our children's school garden programs. We're looking for people who are passionate and knowledgeable about Indigenous education (language, history, arts, etc), environmental education, native tree knowledge and/or food and gardening.
Ideally you have some experience and skills in educating children and youth in any of these areas. You'll be working with our Garden and Food Educator who is specifically working on a project called Urban Trees from Seed. Ideally the candidate(s) will have a little bit of knowledge of an indigenous language spoken in this region. If just learning, that's okay too – we will learn together!
The project involves sourcing and planting native tree seeds, caring for the seedlings and ultimately planting them out from the school nursery bed into the community. Trees are named and signage is created, honoring the tree's name in the indigenous language.
This is occasional work, and pays $150 for a half day (1+ workshop) and $250 for a full day (2+ workshops).
