Position: Assistant System Operator
Organization: Applied Bio-nomics Ltd.
Location: North Saanich, Vancouver Island, BC

Applied Bio-nomics is a small greenhouse operation on Vancouver Island. We rear insects for use in biological pest control as an alternative to chemicals in crops. We have customers throughout North America and in other parts of the world.

We are looking for a full time assistant system operator to join our growing team, working a day shift from Sunday through to Thursday. This person will assist the system operators in the maintenance of the rearing medium and environment, the rearing of the insect through the entire growth cycle, and, the harvest of the insect product. This is an entry level position with additional consideration given to applicants with relevant experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduation. Post-secondary education in a related field (agriculture, biology, entomology) would be preferred.
  • Experience with plants (nursery work, farming, gardening). Experience with insects (entomology, biological pest control, lab work) would be preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in warm greenhouse conditions.

Physical requirements:

  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. is required in this job.
  • Must be a non-smoker.
