Come join a small enthusiastic crew eager to change the world one sweet carrot at a time! The advantage of our small crew is that you'll get to try your hand at nearly everything in the garden, from seeding, transplanting, and cultivation to harvesting. There's lots of time to chat and learn in the fields and we're all keen teachers too! We start every day with a little meeting to make sure you understand what's going on, and to get your ideas as to what we can improve. We're an 8 acre market garden, and you'd be joining Steve, Heather, Thea, Jon and Valerie in the fields overlooking Fish Lake. Prince Edward County is a well known tourist destination, and we offer 40h weeks and weekends off so you've got time to explore and enjoy!
This is a great opportunity for someone who has some market gardening experience or a keen interest, and is ready to build upon and improve their skill set. We use a combination of hand tools like the paper-pot transplanter as well as two small tractors and use a number of tools to help farm more efficiently and comfortably like a water wheel transplanter, an undercutter bar, and a root washer. Currently in our sixth season we run several farmer's markets as well as a CSA and continue both through the winter with storage vegetables.
Desired Skill Set:
Farm Crew members start at $11.40/hr working Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5, that's 40h a week occasionally going up to 45h for weather or harvest needs. Seasonal contract will start as soon as possible and run until November 3rd, 2017 with possibility of extension. There are options for staying on site (outdoors), or we can help you find a room either within biking distance or in the lovely little town of Picton.
We look forward to hearing from you! Send along a cover letter and resumé to:
