Hey, farming is hard work, but you probably already know that. It takes a special kind of love for nature, hard work and wholesome food, to dedicate yourself to organic farming. It’s what we live for, and if you feel the same, then perhaps you can help us out a few days a week. We have two opportunities available:
(1) We are seeking a health-conscious motivated individual to assist 2 or 3 days a week with tending our 2 acres of certified organic market gardens. Tasks include planting, mulching, watering, weeding, harvesting, edging, composting and pretty much anything else to do with keeping the gardens productive. We supply two Farmer’s Markets per week, as well as our on-site Farm Stand, so there is no shortage of work in the gardens! Experience in market gardening is a bonus. At the least, you should have experience in tending a vegetable or perennial garden, and have a fitness level appropriate for 8+ hours of sustained manual labour. You must be comfortable working as part of a team, understanding instructions and taking direction, and carrying out tasks with minimal supervision.
(2) We are seeking a handy-person to assist a few days a week, and/or on an irregular basis, with manual tasks and projects around our 120 acre certified organic farm, as well as with tending to animals. Tasks include fixing fences, using and maintaining farm equipment (tractor, sickle mower, hay rake, baler, horse trailer, electric fencers, etc), building chicken enclosures, setting up temporary fencing to pasture animals, feeding pigs/chickens/sheep/cows, cutting and trimming lawn, reclaiming/clearing/fertilizing pastures, loading and transporting animals to butcher, and more! First and foremost, you must love working with animals. Experience with farm equipment use and maintenance is critical. You must be comfortable working as part of a team, understanding instructions and taking direction, and carrying out tasks with minimal supervision.
