Position: Market garden/ orchard internship
Farm: Rumar Farm
Location: Niagara Region, / near St. Catharines & Welland, Ontario
Remun.: learning + room + board + stipend (see below)

Rumar Farm is a 15 acre mixed fruit and vegetable farm in Ridgeville, in central Niagara. We are certified organic, and are working towards our certification in Biodynamic farming, as well. We offer a very comprehensive education in all aspects of sustainable farming, from soil health, to seed starting, to greenhouse growing. We have peach and pear, plum orchards, and the opportunities are endless.

In return, we offer very comfortable room and board, and a weekly stipend. Live and eat as family, and because I'm a chef, we don't get many complaints about the food! A comfortable and private living space is available. The ideal candidate must have a true passion for what we do. Your assistance will be required in all aspects of the farming operation, including seeding trays, field planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, packing and attend the farmers markets with us, as well. We work with some of the top chefs in the area, and they are pleased to feature our fresh, organic products seasonally.

Full time days from Monday to Friday, and a half day on Saturday. A car or bicycle is recommended for local transport, but we help out with rides to bus routes, or the train station, etc. We will gladly discuss the pros and cons of various farm practices, and share the business of farming as well, the importance of which cannot be understated. Niagara is an area known for its hiking and biking trails, as well as a thriving wine and restaurant service industry.

We are 1 1/2 hours from Toronto, 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, and 30 minutes to beaches on Lake Erie. Our past candidates have all enjoyed themselves, and usually describe the experience as rewarding and positive. If you are passionate about sustainable farming, and are willing to work hard, we would love to meet you.
