KITCHEN MANAGER JOBS

Position: Kitchen Coordinator
Restaurant: Mer's Beach Pub
Location: Port Bruce, Lake Erie, Ontario

The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the kitchen, which serves a small pub-style menu. This role is directly involved in supervising and cooking meals, managing a small team of 2 or 3 people, in addition to performing administrative and logistical tasks like tracking inventory, purchasing food, and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the kitchen’s operation. The Kitchen Coordinator works alongside Mer with schedules, projects and special tasks as required. Support, orientation, and training will be available from Mer and his team.

The position requires a commitment of 44 hours per week of work. This will include the opening and closing of the restaurant and all the tasks that accompany it. Please see below for further details about the job.

If you have a camper trailer a site could be available for you in the park at at discounted rate for the season.

We are also looking for a cook and support staff.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Directly plan and prepare any number of orders every day for every type of customer that comes to the beach.
  • Track the kitchen’s inventory of supplies and food, and make orders as needed with suppliers and in local markets.
  • Make efficient and inspired use of ingredients on hand and produce available from local farms to minimize food waste and keep costs low.
  • Schedule, direct, and collaborate with Mer and a team of between 2 or 3 other kitchen workers.
  • Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the kitchen’s workspaces on a daily basis.
  • Liaise with the local farmers to optimize use of available produce and to help them plan and strategize ongoing planting and harvesting.
  • Create an atmosphere of collaboration and respect among the kitchen and support staff and loyal customers.
  • Consider spontaneous one-off food days and specials to keep people excited and coming back.

Qualifications

  • Previous managerial experience is a definite asset.
  • Experience preparing meals in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong familiarity with pizza ovens, deep fryers and various grills.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to track and purchase inventory, and scheduling.
  • Diverse range of cooking knowledge.
  • Safe food handler permit.
  • Smart serve certified.
  • On feet for the whole shift.
  • Able to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to interact with customers in a friendly manner.
  • Experience and skill working as part of a team, with an ability to collaborate with others.
  • Patience and good communication skills are key.
  • Interest in community life, the beach and having fun.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.

Working Conditions

Mer’s is a community-oriented business that serves a unique variety of locals and visitors. The kitchen will probably be hot but we can open some doors and windows and turn on a fan and there is a private area outside for staff breaks. You will be on your feet throughout the majority of your shift and be dealing directly with customers and suppliers. If you’re just interested in punching the clock and getting a paycheck, then this place probably isn’t for you. However, if you’re open to embracing the Port Bruce beach community, all while working hard to be of service to others, then there’s a good chance you’ll have a great time with us.
