bare market is a package-free retail/grocery concept that aims to nudge behaviour change and incentivize everyday consumers to reduce waste and save money, while having fun doing so! We’ve helped divert almost 7,000 single-use containers from landfill and work across the supply chain to create environmental and social impact. We believe in the limitless potential of reducing waste on an individual, community and systems level. We also believe waste is a fantastic lever for starting a dialogue on systemic and more complex environmental and social issues.
As Toronto’s first one-stop-shop for all things package-free, bare market currently brings home and body care products to you at accessible pricing with our many pop-up shops around the city. In just a few months, however, we’ll have a storefront location in Toronto’s East end where we’ll also provide fresh produce, pre-prepared bulk foods and beverages, and daily made-to-order food items made at our in-house cafe.
For our first ever store front location, bare market is searching for one individual to both assist with the store opening, as well as help run and manage store operations once open. The ideal candidate will have experience within the food and/or food retail industry with hands-on cooking experience (professional or otherwise), as well as vendor and inventory management. In addition, you will ideally have experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
About the Position:
This is a very unique opportunity where you will start out as an independent contractor and transition to a full-time employee upon store opening. As an independent contractor you will work on a part-time basis, around 15-30 hours per week. Hours will increase as we get closer to the store launch in December.
This is a great opportunity to work hands-on alongside the owner and operator of a truly unique retail grocery space, while having a significant impact on the package-free shopping experience in Toronto. If you eat, breathe and dream sustainable food systems and waste reduction, food (menu development, cooking, nutrition, and sourcing), and retail operations, then this position is for you.
