Position: Distribution Coordinator

Position Description

The Distribution Coordinator (DC) helps oversee farmer's markets, and coordinates restaurant/wholesale sales and distribution. The DC is responsible for the effective marketing of produce while maintaining high quality control standards. The DC acts as produce “traffic director” ensuring that all products find a home. The position is responsible for post harvest handling of all farm products, consolidating them from all the farms, and washing, sorting, processing, packing, and coordinating delivery and billing of all orders as well as maintaining excellent customer relationships.

Qualifications

Candidates will possess strong sales, organizational, and project management skills; have excellent written and oral communication skills; enjoy working with people; be outgoing, self-motivated, and have an interest in and a commitment to Sole Food Street Farm’s mission. We encourage our staff to work independently as well as within a group. We value creative, flexible problem-solvers with the confidence totake initiative. A basic knowledge of sustainable agriculture and food related issues is helpful. Three or more years’ experience in wholesale and/or retail produce and knowledge of the restaurant trade are essential. Valid driver’s license is required and the confidence to drive standard or box trucks is a bonus.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Processing and logging of all produce harvested from farms.
  • Maintaining quality standards for produce set by management staff, and communicating quality issues to farm management.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and order in processing area.
  • Management of support staff

Post Harvest Processing

Post-harvest processing and coordination of all produce. Processing occurs at a central wash station on our Pacific Farm and involves washing, bunching, quality control, grading, weighing, and packing produce for orders and farmers markets; this includes accurate record keeping of appropriate information.

Restaurant sales

  • Creation and distribution of weekly fresh sheet to chefs and follow up.
  • Maintaining harvest logs
  • Coordinate packing and delivery of all orders.
  • Maintaining relationships with chefs. This includes soliciting feedback, providing product suggestions, ensuring that restaurants are maintaining minimum orders and that orders are in on time.
  • Generate invoicing and maintaining accurate records for all wholesale activity.

Markets

  • Maintainence of weekly pricing list for market items. Coordinate with farm manager and executive director to determine appropriate pricing.
  • Manage (POS) point of sale, inventory, data entry and maintenance.
  • Completion of ‘take sheet’ prior to each market.
  • Ensuring market setups are complete and organized before each market.
  • Determination of products and quantities for each market

Weekly data entry of logs (harvest, sales, CSA) to excel spreadsheets

Marketing & Social Media

  • Responsible for sales and marketing to restaurant/food business accounts.
  • Supports Farm Manager with sales and marketing for Farmers Markets and Market-share CSA customers
  • Monitoring and meeting sales goals
  • Maintaining and developing customer relationships
  • Contribute to event coordination and production as needed

Staff Supervision

  • Support the Farm Manager with staff supervision and oversight
  • Provide clear direction to farm staff and ensure follow-through
  • Participate in regular performance and development reviews for farm staff.
  • Participate in regular training workshops

Salary: Salary Range $30,000 – $34,000 for a 10-month renewable contract
