Position: Market Garden Field Manager
Organization: Edwin County Farm
Location: Prince Edward County / near Picton, Ontario

The Royal Gardens at Edwin County Farms is a 3+ acre intensive vegetable operation on the shores of the Bay of Quinte in Prince Edward County Ontario, one of the most exciting areas in Canada for food, wine and tourism. Edwin County Farms is a 700 acre farm which produces organic beef, grain and maple syrup. The Royal Gardens is in its second season producing high quality produce for the restaurant trade in nearby Toronto. We are not yet certified organic but follow organic methods. We have expanded substantially since last year, having added a large greenhouse and several poly tunnel hoop houses. We are, as of June 1, producing more than 200 lbs of organically grown greens each week and anticipate maintaining this throughout the season as our peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, fennel and broccoli come on stream. We are continuing to develop and refine our operation while producing and delivering to our restaurant clients on a weekly basis.

We are looking for a field manager with experience in medium scale organic gardening with a focus on seasonal vegetables, especially greens, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, etc. for the restaurant industry. Tasks include crop planning, planting and harvesting, as well as pest and weed management and soil improvement. We are looking for someone who is excited about growing outstanding organic produce and is also interested in being involved in development and innovation in the area of medium-scale organic farming. We are looking for someone who is strongly motivated, can work on their own and can work with us to coordinate a team.

The successful applicant will be strongly detail oriented and have several years’ experience working on and/or managing an organic farm or market-garden facility. They will be familiar with and inspired by the likes of Eliot Coleman, Steve Solomon, Jean-Martin Fortier, etc. Experience working with and maintaining farm machinery such as BCS tractors, UTVs, etc., also a significant asset.

Accommodation is included.
