Footstep Organics is an organic family run farm established in 2012. We are located on 53 acres in the Quinte West region. We grow organic vegetables on 4 acres for Toronto farmers markets and a small CSA. We raise heritage breed pigs on vegetable scraps from the market garden and whey collected from a nearby dairy. We also have a flock of 99 laying hens.
We gained our knowledge of farming through farm apprenticeships, as well as working on an incubator farm that provided opportunity to take courses through the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario. We also have operated the McVean Training Farm Program for the past two years, where we have gained experience with working with students and delivering an organized farmer education program. We are seeking a motivated individual or couple to work and learn on the farm from early May to October.
Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidates experience and the amount of hours agreed upon. Accommodations are available on the farm in a very clean, comfortable and attractive granny suite attached to the house. The suite has its own bathroom, kitchen and laundry.
Employees are involved with all aspects of operating a financially viable and successful vegetable farm. This includes:
In addition to the vegetable operation, employees will gain experience in small scale egg and pork production. Employees will learn through experiential teaching and working right alongside the farmers.
Couples are encouraged to apply. Please send a resume and short bit about yourself and your interest in farming to Paul at:
