We are a 7-acre market garden situated in Centre Wellington, 30 mins north of Guelph, 30 mins west of Orangeville and 1.5 hours from downtown Toronto. We grow a wide variety of organic vegetables that are sold through a 100-member CSA program, farmers’ market and local grocery stores.
Our growing practices follow those of Jean-Martin Fortier, i.e. we work on a permanent raised bed system using a BCS walk-behind tractor and hand tools. As we enter our fourth farming season, we are focused on creating efficient systems that will increase productivity and profits.
We cultivate approximately 1.5 acres of organic vegetables including a large hoophouse and heated propagation house. We also manage a small egg-laying operation of 100 laying hens.
Duration: May 6th to Nov 1st
Weekly Schedule: Must be available to work 2 days per week (16-20 hrs). Work hours are 8am to 5pm (sometimes 7am-4pm) with a 1-hour lunch break. Preferred work days are Wednesdays and Fridays.
Although farming is a rigorous job, we strive to make the work environment enjoyable for everyone on our team. Running Salad Days Farm is a collaborative effort, and we are always open to new ideas and innovations that will help the farm operate at maximum efficiency.
Compensation will range from $13-14/hr based on skills and previous farming experience. A weekly share of organic vegetables and free-range eggs is included.
To apply please send a cover letter and resume to firstname.lastname@example.org . Please include what days of the week you are available to work.
