MARKET GARDENING

Opportunity: Flexible rental/partnership for production-ready small scale market garden — land, irrigation, and equipment in place
Farm: Wilder Farm
Location: St-Anne-de-Prescott, Eastern Ontario / between Ottawa & Montreal

We have a small, diversified vegetable farm that we started, but recently a new job opportunity is preventing us from continuing to run the farm ourselves. We don’t want all the hard work we've put in to be lost, or the equipment we’ve acquired to sit unused — so we are looking to partner with someone to farm our land.

It's still a startup operation — with about three seasons of work and development put in. So, there is lots of room to improve things but it could also be used, as-is, to do a full season. It's a great opportunity for anyone with some solid experience interested in trying things out and getting started — you can hit the ground running with equipment and everything you need to get started right away. We have even done a seed order to top up our supply in case we find the right person to carry on operations.

We are located in Eastern Ontario, between Montreal and Ottawa — 1 hr from each (Ste-Anne-de-Prescott is the town). We have 1 acre of land cleared and under cultivation, which could be expanded up to 3.5 acres by clearing more of our hay field. The field is a south facing slope with clay-loam soil, which we have been building up with compost and cover crop incorperations, its’s good stuff! Over the last few years we have built up a solid base of supplies and systems, including:

  • a gravity/drip irrigation system
  • a compact tractor with raised bed former+mulch layer, chisel plow, disc harrow, and a rotary tiller (for breaking new soil if needed)
  • silage tarps
  • various small tools (wheelhoe, collinear hoe, push seeder, etc)
  • passive (insulated) cold storage room
  • wash station (in a barn)
  • small greenhouse for seedlings/season start

We don't have a specific operational set up or financial arrangement in mind and are open to different arrangements (land rental, profit sharing, partnership, etc.). What we are looking for is the right person to collaborate with, we are happy to work out a reasonable arrangement with the right person. We live on the property and are invested in making sure things work out so the land can stay productive and in use - so we are happy to help keep everything up and running (structures, equipment, systems). Again, we are open to all kinds of arrangements!

Send an email to becca@wilderfarm.ca to learn more - we're excited to meet someone looking to take this on, and help make it work!
