Are you interested in small-scale organic agriculture? A CRAFT farm apprenticeship may be for you! The CRAFT network is an oganization of like-minded farmers who offer organic farming apprenticeships. One a month, these farmers and their apprentices get together for an educational field trip to explore a particular farm-related theme: greenhouse maintenance, animal husbandry, growing for winter production, farm safety, etc. These field trips are an opportunity to learn from the farmers as well as interact and network with the other apprentices.
Our eastern Ontario region is a thriving agricultural area with a growing number of small-scale farming operations responding to the rising interest in the local food movement. Our ecological farming community has joined together and is working cooperatively to provide education and support for prospective future farmers. As a CRAFT intern you will live, work and learn on a farm for a full growing season, with invaluable opportunities to learn necessary skills by working alongside experienced farmers.
Our farmers are currently producing CSA shares, fresh produce, berries, garlic, herbs, chicken, eggs, ducks, turkey, guinea fowl, beef, pork, lamb, sprouts, grains, flours, honey, maple syrup and much more. Their expertise includes Heirloom fruits and vegetables, Heritage breed livestock, green power, biodynamic, organic and sustainable farming practices.
