Position: Market Manager
Type: full-time or part-time paid position
Farm: Roots and Shoots Farm
Location: in Sainte-Cecile-de-Masham near Wakefield QC, 30min north of Ottawa, Ontario

About Us

We grow 12 acres of certified organic veggies on our 100acre farm. We aim to improve our local food system while inspiring our customers to explore the wonders of seasonal produce. We produce quality food for our summer, fall and winter vegetable shares (CSA), and our booths at the Ottawa Farmers' Market at Landsdowne Park and Westboro Farmers' Market at Byron Park. We currently have five farmers running our operation. We are seeking a dynamic, organized, bilingual individual to manage our on-farm store and our 2 farmers market.

Our fields are surrounded by the beautiful Gatineau hills. We share lunches every day and offer free yoga in our century barn once a week. We are 2min from Gatineau park and 11km from Wakefield, a vibrant community with cozy cafes, restaurants and fun local bars. There is a growing community of small farmers in this area, which makes it a fun place to network and learn.

Market Manager

This position will see the candidate work closely with our field managers to prepare orders for our market outlets. The candidate will track inventory before and after markets using our QuickBook software. The candidate will oversee setup at markets and the farm store. Ideally, this candidate would also create content (photos, videos, etc) for our social media outlets.

This position would require the candidate to work most weekends. We will allow only two weekends in the 20 week season to be taken off, unless extreme circumstances arise. Time off during the week is negotiable.

This position starts April 15th and Ends October 30th, with the possibility of renewing for the 2019 season.

Requirements:

  • Physically Strong (ability to lift 40lbs)

  • Ability to work quickly
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Ability to work with people
  • Drivers license and confidence driving a big truck in the city
  • 25+ for insurance

  • Bilingualism
  • Good design sense
  • We do prefer to hire locally.

Tasks

Assist with planting, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, packing and pest management. May also be asked to work an occasional market, which may include driving a truck into the city.

Wage

$13-15/hour, depending on experience. This position is a minimum of 30hours. We would like the candidate to be able to contribute to field-work as well, for up to 42H, but this is negotiable.

Contract outlining expectations will be presented and signed before commencing work.

Vegetables are free. Semi-private accommodations are available on farm. Wakefield and Sainte-Cecile-de-Masham are close by, where you may rent rooms/apartments.
