Sungold Organics is hiring a market gardener. This is an entry-level position that requires no prior farming experience, although an aptitude for physical work and an interest in learning about small-scale agriculture are certainly assets.
The garden is located on a beautiful tree-lined property outside of Mount Brydges, about a twenty-five minute drive from downtown London. We cultivate under one acre of crops using a variety of hand tools and intensive growing techniques. There currently stand five greenhouses, with another in the works for the spring. The garden produces a variety of vegetables and herbs which are sold through a weekly farmers' market in London and to local restaurants and retailers. We place a strong emphasis on growing high quality produce, and therefore attention to detail is a desired characteristic in an applicant. The work is physically demanding but highly rewarding; we will witness the seasons change, cross paths with a variety of wildlife, and cultivate many different crops throughout their transformation from seed to harvest. We grow in accordance with the organic standard, although the farm is not certified. More recently our techniques have evolved to limit the amount of tillage performed in the garden in an ongoing effort to maintain habitat for biology present in the soil.
Some finer points...
Most of all, we are seeking someone who is sincerely interested in being part of a small team as we work together to produce high quality food.
Please email Andrew with a resume and brief letter introducing yourself, or feel free to get in touch if you have any questions:
