Type - interns: internship with accom., stipend, more (see below)
Organization: Luxy Farm CSA and Market Garden
Location: St-Albert (between Ottawa & Montreal), Ontario
Luxy Farm is a small scale, certified organic, vegetable CSA and Market Garden in its 8th year of operation. We are situated on 90 acres in St. Albert, ON, just 40 minutes east of Ottawa. We are looking for 3 mature, enthusiastic interns to help out on the farm with various tasks. The work will include seedling propagation, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, packing and preparing vegetables for our 80 member CSA and two weekend markets in Ottawa. We are looking for full season help starting at the end of April until the end of November. Along the way you can expect to learn the basics of soil health and fertility, pest and disease management, greenhouse propagation, machinery and implements, record keeping, vegetable handling and storage. The work can be intense and takes place under all manner of weather conditions, so applicants must be physically capable and have a great work ethic.
On farm accommodations are available with amenities. Compensation includes a share of the vegetables we grow and a stipend paid monthly which starts at $100/week and increases to $200/week as the season progresses. A year-end bonus is awarded to those staying for the entirety of the contract and who have shown a commitment to excellence. The educational aspect is largely experiential, working along-side the farm owner, and self-directed. A library of materials and books are at your disposal and local farm tours are available as well.
At Luxy Farm, it is important to us that interns feel they are getting a worthwhile experience, so we put an emphasis not just on working and learning together, but being part of a family. We sometimes take excursions together, have potlucks, sit around the fire in the evenings and sing songs and we generally just like to have fun. If you think you would be a good fit for our team, send your resume and a cover letter telling us why to:
