Amara Farm is a certified organic vegetable and blueberry farm located north of Courtenay, BC. We are a founding member of Merville Organics Growers Cooperative and sell through a 150-share CSA, 3 farmers markets, and a dozen wholesale accounts. We are looking for a vegetable farm manager to:
The Farm Manager (FM) at Amara Farm is responsible for the planning, growing, and harvesting all the annual production on the farm. Amara Farm is Certified Organic and the farm manager must have a working understanding of how to grow food and document their actions to comply with Organic Standards. The Farm's annual production currently occupies approximately two acres of the farm and includes multiple field production areas, four stationary hoophouses, and two moveable hoophouses. The farm aims to produce food year-round as much as possible so the FM should have familiarity with winter crop production. The FM is responsible for managing a crew of two interns and occasional WWOOFers/volunteers to carry out weekly tasks like bed prep, weeding, seeding, harvest, and irrigation. In addition, the FM works with the farm owners to provide weekly lessons for the intern crew to ensure they have a well-rounded education of how to grow organic produce.
Hours: The FM works Monday-Friday, 9am to 4pm (hours can change in the heat of summer but ~ 35 hours per week)
Compensation is $36,000 per year and could include an incentive program. Room and board are available on farm if needed, cost to be negotiated.
Deadline for applications is December 15th but interviews will begin in early December.
