Start date: May – September (or depending on weather and availability) Students welcome!
The Hendrick Farm Foundation’s Gardening Department is looking for a passionate and hard-working individual who enjoys working in a positive environment in an outdoor setting. We believe in a strong sense of community and would like to welcome you to ours!
Hendrick Farm is a growing community in the heart of Old Chelsea, just fifteen minutes from downtown Ottawa. Nestled at the foothills of Gatineau Park, this is a truly unique place with a deep history of agriculture rooted in the earth here, having been a family farm for over three generations.
The Hendrick Farm Foundation is dedicated to preserving hundreds of acres of sprawling green space, including a certified organic farm and several exquisite flower gardens that attract tourists and photographers from all over. We boast over a hundred varieties of vegetables (featuring a signature garlic crop!) and produce over eighty different varieties of rare and/or endangered heirloom flowers. Our focus on organic principals and low-impact methods plays a crucial role in guiding our stewardship and growing techniques.
The Gardening department aims to build, grow, and improve the Foundation gardens and surrounding new neighbourhood. The landscape and beautification of the site is a key component to the Hendrick Farm project. As the Gardener’s Assistant, you will have the opportunity to help build something really great. All facets of annual and perennial flower care will form the body of your day-to-day tasks.
