LOCAL FOOD JOBS

Positions: (REVISED JUNE 2020)

  1. Warehouse Packer (6-20+ hours/week);  Several positions available, including 3 via the Canada Summer Jobs program (youth 15-30)
  2. Co-operative Intern (Paid, 20-30+ hours/wk for 1 year)*

Employer: Eat Local Grey Bruce Cooperative
Location: Owen Sound, Ontario
Hours: Part time and occasional (pool) roles available

Eat Local Grey Bruce is a not-for-profit cooperative of producers and consumers. We operate an online farmers' market, aggregate food in our Owen Sound warehouse, and distribute to homes throughout Grey-Bruce.

We need super-people to help prep the warehouse and pack orders for delivery to co-op members throughout Grey Bruce.

Do you have what it takes to work in our warehouse?

  • Able to handle a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Very quick learner
  • Great attention to detail
  • Motivated team player
  • Respectful of new and developing public health directives
  • Can make a commitment for at least 2 months
  • Can lift upwards of 50lbs

We also are interested in occasional delivery drivers (coverage for existing drivers).

Our operations are growing. This growth was steady in 2019 at 35%. Then it exploded in March 2020 with the emergence of COVID-19 and physical/social distancing. Orders increased to almost 250% of our usual volume in a single week. By providing home delivery, we get food to people in a safe and efficient manner. Before COVID-19 we were delivering to 100+ households per week. Since mid-March we are now delivering to 200+ households, and are again hiring (this time for the summer, likely longer) to continue to handle the growth we've seen.

Compensation:

Employee wages start at $15/hr, with a paid 1/2h hour lunch. Additional benefits include a free membership and staff discount.

*Please note:  The Co-operative Intern role is a grant-based position that has conditions that apply.  Under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy, recipients must be a youth (under 30), and eligible to work in Canada.  We are hopeful that the recipient would be willing to commit to a year with the organization.  The hope is that the position would generally be a full-time role, with opportunities across the organization depending on interest (in-warehouse, outreach, events, etc).  The position is currently somewhat limited due to COVID-19 - it is our hope that we will see a return to business-as-usual during the project period.
