(1) Farm Programs Coordinator 

Pender Island Community Hall is now accepting applications for a summer position as Farmers Programs Coordinator and Leader. This position is contingent on funding from Young Canada Works. The incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and some evenings. This position requires an acceptable criminal record check.

Duties will include:

  • Assist with the Farmers Market set-up
  • Liaise with farmers, artists and artisans
  • Develop a Youth Leadership camp about event management in conjunction with the Fall Fair
  • Develop and lead farm & heritage crafts and activities for all ages
  • Budgeting & purchasing for the programs
  • Supervise & provide support to volunteers & LIT

Other duties will include:

  • Develop a farm and heritage skills database
  • General office administration
  • Liaise & collaborate with community organizations
  • Organize special events & regular activities
  • Assist with regular events & activities
  • Promotion, advertising, marketing & public relations
  • Work collaboratively with the Hall Manager
  • Carry out additional duties as required

Preferred skills and knowledge:

  • Able to lift and carry 30 – 40lbs.
  • Experience developing and leading activities.
  • Interest or knowledge in heritage, rural or farm life skills and culture.
  • Good communication (verbal and written), customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local activities, resources and community groups
  • Working towards a degree in Agriculture, Management, Business, Tourism, Community Development...
  • Foodsafe (preferred)
  • Class 4 would be an asset
  • Current First Aid Training with CPR & AED
  • Current Criminal Records Check

Anticipated Start Date: Part time May 11, 2020 (Preferred. 4 – 6 hrs/ wk.)

Full time June 30, 2020

Anticipated End Date: September 5, 2020

Hours: 30 hrs per week minimum, plus additional hours as mutually agreed.

Schedule will include some evenings, Sundays and most Saturdays.

(2) Summer Programs Coordinator

Location: Pender Island, BC

Pender Island Community Hall is now accepting applications for a Summer Programs Coordinator and Leader. The position is contingent on funding and is open to youth 19 – 30 years old, Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible refugee. This position entails a combination of administrative responsibilities and direct program delivery. The incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Summer Programs Coordinator, planning and facilitating youth leadership programs and summer camp programs. We are looking for a creative, organized, and enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in recreation, leadership, the outdoors, and a passion for teaching children and youth.

Key Duties

  • Pre-camp: Program planning, scheduling, promotion, registration, orientation, administration, etc
  • Liaise and collaborate with community organizations
  • Program delivery, supply distribution, maintain budget control, staff & volunteer supervision, support and evaluations
  • Community Gathering and Farmers Market assistance
  • Develop and implement an effective volunteer training and orientation program
  • Provide direction & training to volunteers & youth leadership participants and summer staff
  • Chair volunteer and staff meetings
  • Coordinate special events (i.e. Fathers Day Kite Building)
  • Evaluate the total program at summers end in detail; compile a comprehensive report with statistics and recommendations
  • Assist with events and activities
  • Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as required

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local activities, resources and community groups
  • Experience with office procedures and budgeting.
  • Experience with program planning, safety, instructional methods & leadership techniques.
  • Experience leading children 6 – 12 years of age and youth 12 – 18 years of age
  • Experience organizing and leading games songs, crafts, drama and other recreational activities.
  • Interest or knowledge in heritage, rural or farm life skills.
  • Ability to handle emergency and discipline situations.
  • Ability to supervise, evaluate, motivate, and challenge interns and staff.
  • Current First Aid with CPRC and AED
  • Bronze cross (or better), Foodsafe and a current Class 4 BC Driver’s License would be an asset
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide criminal record clearance

Anticipated Start Date: Part time May 1, 2020 (Preferred. 8 – 10 hrs/ wk.)

Full time May 12, 2020

Anticipated End Date: September 5, 2020 (Aug 30 possible if needed)

Hours: 35 - 40 hrs/week, schedule may include most Saturdays. $17.00 /hour
