Position: Food Programmer, Evergreen Adventure Camp

Successful candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment, full-time post-secondary students in the previous academic year and intending to return to school in fall 2019, and legally entitled to work in Canada. This opportunity is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Youth Work Experience Program.


Evergreen is seeking qualified, mature, responsible and dynamic staff to work at Evergreen Adventure Camp. The Food Programmer will coordinate Evergreen Adventure Camp’s lunch program, as well as develop and facilitate all food related programs. The Food Programmer will also be responsible for supervising and coordinating the extended care program at the end of the day. We are an accredited OCA day camp with approximately 120 campers per session.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates lunch program with Café BeLong
  • Plans and delivers all food related programs for campers
  • Adheres to all safe food handling practices
  • Maintains and organizes the kitchen and outdoor oven areas
  • Cleans all dishes and equipment from lunch program
  • Works with the gardener to include produce grown on-site and utlilize vermi-composting system
  • Develops program to track food waste from lunch and food programs
  • Facilitates weekly pizza program, including use of the outdoor wood oven
  • Supports and mentors volunteers
  • Assists with daily extended care program
  • Participate in end of day reflections, provide feedback and support to the rest of the camp team
  • Assumes duties as Camp Counsellor as required

Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director
  • Supervises: Volunteers, Interns


  • 2-3 years of previous work/volunteer food programming experience
  • Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’, or willingness to obtain
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
  • Food Handlers certificate, or willingness to obtain


  • Experience working in a camp setting
  • Experience using an outdoor wood burning oven
  • Experience with Nature Connection Routines and Outdoor Experiential Education
  • Background in Biology, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Arts or similar
  • Knowledge of Stewardship and Ecological Restoration practices

Working Conditions:

  • Working outdoors in inclement weather
  • Standing for long periods of time

Hours of Work:

  • Available between the hours of 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday
  • Full time, 9 weeks, July 2- August 30
  • Mandatory staff training from June 24-28
