The Richmond Food Bank is looking for a dynamic, outgoing, caring and compassionate individual to join our team as a Program Assistant.
About the Organization:
The Richmond Food Bank Society supports food security and nourishment needed to sustain health and well-being. Each week our volunteers offer an array of fresh produce and other grocery items five days per week to around 1400 individuals. We also support a School Meal program to address hunger among students, Home Delivery program, and Information services to connect people in need with community resources (virtually, during the COVID-19 emergency response).
The Richmond Food Bank is also a sharing hub for food and supplies to community meals, shelters, and other social service agencies that serve low-income and marginalized people in our city.
Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Operations, the Program Assistant will assist with program coordination and supervision. Additionally, the program assistant will also create content for social media platforms, create content for our website (blog posts, etc.) and create promotional materials for programs. The Program Assistant will also be responsible for sharing information about our services with various stakeholders and community agencies.
In addition, this position will also support the operations of the Richmond Food Bank as a whole, including warehouse, client activities and events. They will work closely with staff, volunteers and clients to gather stories and social media content.
Schedule and Hours:
This is a fixed-term 16 week position (with the possibility of extension) at 20 hours per week. The anticipated start date is May 25th until September 11th.
Work hours are normally 10:00AM – 2:00PM, Monday through Friday, though this schedule may be adjusted as needed (to be discussed during interviews). Hours of operation at the Richmond Food Bank are 9am – 3pm Monday – Saturday, so hours of work will fall within those times.

Skills and Qualifications:
Training and supervision provided: The Manager of Volunteer Operations will be responsible for supervising and overseeing the training of the Program Assistant. Actual training will include shadowing of various staff as well as regular check-in meetings with the Executive Director to set and monitor goals and performance.
