Position: Farm-Based Micro-School Educator
School: The Guild at Fronterra Farm

Location: Consecon, Prince Edward County, Ontario
Housing: on-site (see below)

A rare, inspiring opportunity for a passionate teacher/teacher family to live on a waterfront organic farm 1.5 hours from Toronto in a heritage log homestead running a micro-school for 2-5 children aged 3-6.

Fronterra is a 58 acre waterfront organic farm located in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada (1.5 hours east of Toronto) producing vegetables, cut flowers, botanicals, hops, barley and wheat, hay and straw. During the summer tourist season, Fronterra offers luxury camping and agro-tourism experiences that connect guests to the natural world while transferring related skills that have a positive impact on the environment. Fronterra’s vision is to foster a shift toward healthy, sustainable lifestyles and promote the understanding of our connection to the diversity of the natural systems that sustain us (see

Since 2017, Fronterra has run “The Guild”, an early-childhood micro-school with an annual class of five children aged 18 months to 4 years old. The Guild’s mission is to inspire children with a wonder of nature through nature-based experiences that deliver an ecological literacy that connect them to simplicity, self-sufficiency and sustainability while building a strong moral purpose, kindness to others, and an awareness to address the challenges of our future:

  • Nature-based experiences: farming, permaculture, eco-gardening, wildlife study & food production
  • Simplicity: Slow Movement, yoga, meditation, small is great ~ less is more
  • Self-Sufficiency: confidence, courage, diverse & practical skill sets, competency, self dependance
  • Sustainability: closed-loop consumption, community support, ecological advocacy
  • Moral Purpose: confidently define good-vs-bad, right-vs-wrong in a modern context
  • Challenges of our Future: climate change, globalism, rich-poor gap, food/energy/health security.

As the pandemic continues to affect the primary schooling system and children’s quality of education, Fronterra is responding by developing The Guild into an alternative micro-school for local families wishing to limit contact while still offering their children a premium educational experience. The class size is limited to 5 children between the ages of 3-6 with 2 of the children being our children aged 3 and 6 years old.

This program aims to foster healthy & joyful experiences for the children, their families, the teacher and our community at large by connecting to the natural world through activities such as organic gardening, yoga, music, art, field study, entrepreneurship & food awareness.

Accommodation are provided for the teacher/teacher family and consist of a 1860 two floor 18’x 36’ historic log homestead that is currently in the process of being reconstructed. The accommodations are charming yet off-grid featuring ecological designs including off-the-grid solar power and propane and would be suitable for a couple or a small family. High speed internet available on site. Beach access at North Beach Provincial Park with park pass 1 minute away. Canoes, bikes, etc available. Access to food from our 15,000 sq. ft garden and organic chicken coop.

As the school progresses and as the situation warrants, Fronterra is considering a micro summer camp to be based in the farm’s gardens, fields and forests as well as the possible addition of 2 groups of 5 children: five 7-10 years of age & five 11-14 years of age.

During the summer of 2021, Fronterra may offer an outdoor day camp at the farm for these students making this opportunity year round employment. Also, further opportunities may be available working with the luxury camp during the summer which will be offered based on the experience and capabilities of the candidate.
