Positions: Assistant Grower (Two Positions)

We’re growing and looking for the right candidates for these unique positions! Over the next 6 months the farm will be going through a major expansion and we are looking for passionate, dedicated individuals who want to contribute to the positive change in Ontario’s food system.

Living Earth Farm is an innovative indoor farm that specializes in year-round organic greens and herbs production. The farm is located in the north end of Toronto and focuses on producing food that is sustainable for the environment, delicious and nutritious. Living Earth Farm is proud to be the first certified organic vertical farm in Ontario, leading the path for future innovation in the field. The farm uses a unique combination of traditional organic farming practices with cutting edge technological advancements that creates a perfect plant environment year-round.

These positions provide a unique opportunity to learn about the emerging indoor vertical farming industry right in the city. These positions will start at 4 days a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays) at approximately 30-35 hours per week. Both assistant growers will transition to full time (40-45 hours per week) within 6 months. One position is available immediately and the other will start February 2019. The assistant grower is responsible for supporting the general operation and maintenance of the farm including planting, watering, harvesting, packing and delivering. You will be responsible for ensuring that our produce is harvested, sorted and packed to the extremely high-quality standards that our customers expect.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of growing including soil preparation, seeding, watering, harvesting, packaging and sanitation
  • Delivering product to customers throughout the GTA (full G drivers licence required)
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Maintaining inventory, ordering materials as required
  • Maintaining the highest quality standard during harvesting and packaging (our customers expect the absolute best!)
  • Following instructions carefully and accurately

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to climb a safety ladder repetitively
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach frequently or for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs


  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Positive attitude, strong initiative and independent
  • Have high energy, self-motivation and willingness to learn
  • Passionate about organic agriculture/ vertical farming
  • Self-directed: Able to work at a high standard with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent judgment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and manage time effectively
  • Ability to stand, climb and bend for extended periods of time
  • Willing to work flexible hours during peak season, with weekends required year-round
  • Must have a cleaning driving record
  • Own transportation recommended but not required

Required experience:

  • Training will be provided


$16 to $18 per hour based on experience and ability
