Position: Relief Cook (LGTBQ+BIPOC to the front)
Organization: Campus Community Co-Op Daycare
Location: downtown Toronto, near Spadina & Harbord (U of T campus)

This post is for a relief position for a Day Care Cook. It is to cover sick and vacation days for our fulltime cook. There are quite a few days to cover! The hours are 8:00-2:30 weekdays only, and the rate of pay is $18/hr. Your primary responsibility is to make A.M/ P.M snack and Lunch for kids + staff, and to ensure allergy modifications are sent up correctly. You do the dishes as well.

This is a much different pace than restaurant kitchens. No chits, relatively little stress. If you are comfortable in a kitchen and have at least few years of industry experience this should be relatively painless. We are looking for serious candidates that can be available long term. It is a good fit for someone that needs some extra income, a student, someone that works from home or works in the evening. We make vegetarian, healthy food for these little folks so someone interest in healthy food/ nutrition that has some cooking chops (no pun intended!) could be a great fit as well. There are quite a few days to cover, so there is the possibility of a set number of hours per month – and potentially a job share in the future for a community minded cook!

You can check us out at to see if it feels like a good fit

Must Have:

  • a valid Food Handlers Certificate
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal record check is ideal to start (but it will be required for on going work though)

  • Experience with batch cooking, (You will be cooking for 65 ppl solo)
  • Be able to multitask, and work with timelines
  • Be able to solve problems/ improvise on the fly if necessary
  • Punctual + Friendly, and loving kids helps (you can eat lunch with them if you want, so cute!)
  • Light lifting will be required-up to 25-50lbs (above your waist)
  • Knowledge of the Canada food guide is an asset, but not necessary

The kitchen is located in the basement; there are 15 stairs. Once you are downstairs there is a step down to the washroom as well. Once you are downstairs there isn’t much up and down, if at all, until home time!
