About the Farm:

Started in 2010, Juniper Farm is located on a 200-acre property in idyllic Wakefield, Quebec, growing a diversity of vegetables on a 5-acre rotation using organic and biodynamic methods; the farm also produces fermented foods, eggs, meat, and some prepared foods from our commercial kitchen. Production is accomplished through manual labor with support from two tractors. The farm sells its produce to many local restaurants in the Ottawa/Gatineau region as well as through an on-site farm store. As an active member of the thriving local community the farm occasionally hosts events such as dinners, workshops, and festivals.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

We are seeking candidates interested in assisting the farm through tractor operations in the field including but not limited to: primary tillage, secondary tillage, fertilizer spreading, mowing, and cover crop seeding. As there will be opportunities for equipment maintenance during the season, experience with mechanical repairs is ideal.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

Prior experience with tractor driving and the use of farm implements required, as well as a valid driver’s license. Maintenance and mechanical skills are an asset.

Pay & Benefits:

Wages for this role will be discussed based on experience. This role also receives the same benefits afforded to all farm staff; an employee discount of 15% at the farm store, access to fresh harvest from the fields as well as non-marketable (seconds) produce, and inclusion in weekly communal lunches.

Working Conditions:

This position would start work April 15th and work with the farm on a part-time basis (3-5 days a week) until October 15th with the possibility of some variation to these dates based on field conditions. Typical working hours are between 7h00 and 16h00 with an hour unpaid lunch. Time off and sick days are unpaid while holidays are worked in accordance with Quebec labor laws.
