Position: Urban Farmer/Gardener

Urban Farmer/Landscaper

Seeking Experienced Farmer/Gardener to join our small company and manage the weekly operation of our urban farming branch. We have great opportunities to expand our urban farming business with the right candidate. 50%+/- of the position also involves cosmetic landscape maintenance (lawns and gardens). Must be in good shape and enjoy physical labour in addition to your other duties. Snow Removal Work available in winter.

6 to 12 week Student Coop Positions also available (must be actively enrolled at a Canadian Institution).

Eden Project is a small garden and landscaping company focused on quality customer service and organic and natural approaches to landscape management. We also operate several small scale urban farms and sell our produce right here in Calgary.

Job Responsibilities

Urban Farming Duties May Include

  • Ordering seeds and planting, including farm layout/design; assistance in crop planning
  • Weekly maintenance of urban farms (weeding, irrigation, harvesting, packaging and delivery)
  • Schedule management for planting, harvesting, deliveries, maintenance and other farm duties
  • Liasing with farm hosts, vendors, farmers markets, other farmers etc. as required
  • Potential to be involved with sales and promotion (e.g. promoting to local restaurants)
  • Clear understanding and knowledge of organic urban farming, flowers, plants and vegetables, composting, sustainable/organic practices an asset

Landscaping Duties May Include

  • Weekly lawn and garden service (mowing, weeding, shrub trimming, flower and plant maintenance)
  • Landscape and yard clean ups
  • Assistance with small to medium landscape projects (softscaping: sod, mulch, soil and plant installation)
  • Snow Removal in winter

Additional Assets (helpful but not required):

  • Experience in Website Deisgn or Landscape Design
  • Use of personal truck or other vehicle for delivering produce or transporting tools if needed (compensated at government-posted rate per km)
  • Under the age of 30
  • Four years of post-secondary eduation (any field) or two years diploma (must be completed)
  • For the Student Coop position you must be actively enrolled at a Canadian Institution (please state your field of study)

Please note that this program may be partially funded by the government of Canada for eligible applicants.

We offer attractive compensation rates for the right candidate who is committed to expanding the urban agriculture side of the business and exploring other initiatives within the company.

Job Type: Full-time and student Coop positions available. Part time will be considered for committed applicants. Note: there is seasonality variability to this position, winter is typically less than full time hours.
