Position: Classroom Volunteer for Gardening and Cooking Program
Organization: Growing Chefs!
Location: Metro Vancouver, British Columbia
Growing Chefs! Chefs for Children’s Urban Agriculture runs a Classroom Gardening and Cooking Program in elementary schools to get kids excited about growing, cooking, and eating good, healthy food. We believe in the importance of connecting young children to their food through hands-on learning, connecting them to nature and teaching them how their food choices impact their personal health and the health of the environment.
In our Fall intermediate program, volunteers are paired with a classroom in Grades 4-6 to give students hands-on gardening and cooking experience. And we need your help! Many of our volunteers are chefs, or individuals who work in the restaurant industry; the program was built around them sharing their experience preparing food. Because growing food is also a key component of our curriculum, we are also looking for volunteers with growing and gardening experience to share their expertise. If you are passionate about food literacy education, we’re looking for you!
This year as we are looking to recruit over 150 volunteers to reach over 1,500 kids. It’s a wonderful way for individuals to give back to the community and a great opportunity for them to share their incredible knowledge and passion about gardening. All skill levels welcome!
Not only is it a minimal commitment, it’s also a ton of fun and a great opportunity to meet other members of the community!
