Needed: Organic farm field hands
Type: volunteer (fresh farm produce in exchange)
Organization: Saanich Organics (Three Oaks Farm)
Location: Saanichton, BC (23 km north of Victoria BC / 25 minutes drive)
We are seeking volunters to come from their own housing on a regular basis through the season, 1-5 days per week, mainly now-end October.
Our 2 acre certified organic farm is part of a 5 acre piece of land in the beautiful Mt Newton Valley, located 30 mins from Victoria and 5 mins from nearby commercial centres. We grow 40 different veggie crops and specialize in tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, salad greens, spinach, strawberries, and veggie plant starts. We sell our produce through a marketing partnership (Saanich Organics) to our box program, several restaurants, and 2 busy farmer markets in Victoria.
We are a friendly and welcoming team of 5 so far:)
Rachel is the main farmer with 20 yrs experience who is passionate about food security issues and is eager to share and pass on her knowledge. She works closely with a co-manager, another employee, and two full time apprentices that all live on the farm. Enjoy and participate in all aspects of market gardening and commercial production; seeding, succession planting, irrigating, weeding, harvesting, packaging, seed saving, eating. Your days will be diverse and satisfying. We have 4 greenhouses as well as plenty of field crops, and there are chickens and goats on the land as well.
We offer you fresh farm produce in exchange, and our company :)
We are located near the ocean, the hiking trails of John Dean Park, and 10 mins drive from swimming lakes. Ideal volunteers are physically fit, respectful, positive, communicative and easy to be around!
