The Volunteer’s Role

We are looking for someone with a passion for agroecology and urban agriculture!

As a volunteer, you’ll be working with the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM) –Peru’s best university in the fields of agricultural, biological, and forestry sciences– to contribute to research projects that will directly benefit small-scale urban producers.

This volunteer placement will be located out of the UNALM’s “el Huerto” (the Garden), a 10-hectare plot of land used organic farming research. You will work with a dedicated team of agronomists, extension agents and students. It’s a great small-team environment, with plenty of opportunity to lead and learn.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a participative research project on four emblematic crops: atacco (amaranthus dubius), verdolaga (portulaca oleracea), quinua silvestre (chenopodium spp.) and tomatillo (solanum pimpinellifolium).
  • Provide training and support to urban producer groups and associations involved in the participative research.
  • Analyze research findings and write report.

Essential Academic Qualifications:

  • Degree in agronomy, biology, ecology, plant or social science, environmental studies, urban agriculture, other related fields or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in participative research
