Withrow Park Farmers’ Market (WPFM) is an upbeat outdoor community featuring fresh, local and sustainably grown foods. The market is open every Saturday 9 am to 1 pm, rain or shine, from June 1 to October 12, 2019 and serves the wider Riverdale community.
People are increasingly shopping at farmers' markets to support local farmers and to purchase food without packaging. Yet not all farmers' markets are waste free. With the addition of a Zero Waste Ambassador, we'd like to change that!
Although reuse, compost, and recycling will play large parts in our Zero Waste Program, the top priority is reduction. The long-term goal of WPFM is to reduce waste overall by not creating it in the first place. One of the ways that WPFM is already working to reach this goal is the implementation of our reusable dishware program last year. We washed our items over 2000 times, saving that many single-use items from the landfill. This year we’d like to beat this number!
The Zero Waste Ambassador will play a vital role in helping the market achieve its goal of zero waste by overseeing our reusable dishware program, and other zero waste programming based on your own personal interests.
