Volunteers needed for the Underpass Park Farmers' Market
Market description: The Underpass Park Farmers' Market is held in the Underpass Park, located at 29 Lower River Street, Toronto, Ontario. The Underpass Park Farmers' Market will run from July 9th until October 15th, from 4PM-7:30PM. The market was established in a dense residential area which lacks access to traditional grocery outlets. In establishing this market, the organizers had a focus on creating spaces for residents to purchase local, fresh, and affordable food.
Volunteer description: This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in supporting a community market, gaining a better understanding of fresh food markets, and becoming familiar with our farmers and prepared food vendors. Volunteers will be required to assist from 2:30PM-8:00PM on market days, though split shifts are available if needed. In order to be successful in this role, volunteers will need a positive outlook, willingness to learn, ability to adapt to a quickly moving retail environment, and good communication skills. Punctuality and commitment are important, and a desire in understanding and supporting local food initiatives would be beneficial. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of abilities and skill sets. Further, we will create an environment of equality for all volunteers regardless of their race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, differing ability, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, same sex partnership, age, marital status, family status, immigrant status, receipt of public assistance, political affiliation, religious affiliation, level of literacy, language and/or socio-economic status.
Responsibilities and tasks for our volunteers will include:
