VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Positions: (1) Communications Coordinator; (2) Funding and Sponsorship Coordinator; and (3) Programs Coordinator
Organization: Toronto Veggie Parade
Location: Toronto, Ontario

The Toronto Veggie Parade is an annual celebration organized by volunteers. It aims to celebrate veg lifestyles and build community between veg individuals and groups; create a safe and inclusive space for people to explore the idea of a veg lifestyle; and show our love for nature and all living beings.

The Veggie Parade Coordinating Team will meet in person regularly (about once a month and potentially more frequently the months leading up to the parade), but most work will be done remotely, with the majority of team communication happening electronically.

(1) Communications Coordinator

As the Communications Coordinator, you will develop and implement a successful communications strategy to promote the Veggie Parade. Your strategy will both engage our current community, as well as continue to grow and expand into new audiences.

Responsibilities:   

  • Work with the Parade Coordinator to set goals for marketing and communications objectives, and develop strategies to achieve these goals  

  • Develop a communications plan and social media strategy for the months leading up the parade

  • Manage the Wordpress website; publish and update content

  • Manage media relations; build relationships and prepare materials for the media

  • Prepare print materials to be used for promotion as well as during the event

  • Assist with other communication tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, or veg-friendly

  • Experience developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies

  • Experience managing a website

  • Experience communicating with people about veg*ism

  • Proficiency with MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Drive

The following would be considered an asset

  • Experience in media relations; taking advantage of media channels to reach new audiences

  • Skills in graphic design

 (2) Funding and Sponsorship Coordinator 

As the Funding and Sponsorship Coordinator you will identify funding and sponsorship opportunities to help the Veggie Parade continue to grow and develop.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a sponsorship kit to help secure monetary and non-monetary sponsorship opportunities

  • Research and apply for community grants

  • Explore other potential funding sources

Qualifications:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, or veg-friendly

  • Understanding of the Veggie Parade’s mission and values, and the ability to apply this understanding to identify and secure appropriate sources of funding

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (particularly writing skills)

  • Proficiency with MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Drive

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Experience identifying and securing event sponsors

  • Experience applying for community grants

  • Experience in event planning

(3) Programs Coordinator

As the Programs Coordinator you will coordinate parade programming, help develop the parade schedule, and support with organizing logistical details. This role involves the opportunity to develop and execute new and creative programming!

Responsibilities:

  • Research and secure parade entertainers and performers (e.g. music bands, dancers, etc.)

  • Research and secure parade speakers

  • Support with the logistical details of the parade (e.g. planning the set up of the event, organizing parade materials, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, or veg-friendly

  • Creativity to build fun and engaging programming for parade attendees

  • Ability to organize and schedule details of multiple speakers and entertainers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Drive

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Knowledge of, and/or connections with, the Toronto veg community

  • Experience in event planning

  • Experience planning parade programming
