VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Position: Team Food Sort Assistant
Organization: Greater Vancouver Food Bank
Location: Vancouver BC

Each year, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) warehouse moves over 4 million pounds of food in and out of the 33,000 square foot warehouse. The daily operations of the GVFB warehouse consists of: receiving food, sorting & inventorying food, and distributing food to our food depots and partnering agencies. The team sort assistant sort assistant will be part of the Operations team at the GVFB reporting to the Operations Manager.

Location: 1150 Raymur Avenue, Vancouver, BC

Dates & Times Needed: Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30 am to 8:00 pm 2- 4 hrs per shift
Commitment Required: A minimum of 2 hours per week

Required to be 19 yrs. & Older: Yes

Code of Conduct:

  • Represent the GVFB as a community ambassador.
  • Support the mission, vision and values of the GVFB.
  • Honor the confidentiality of members, staff, other volunteers, sponsors, donors and community partners.
  • Have a good sense of humor, being flexible and adaptable.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Help prepare the sorting areas with all tools and equipment required by volunteers.
  • Assist with providing instructions, support, and supervision to corporate and community group volunteers during their volunteer session.
  • Adhere to quality standards for each category and station.
  • Help volunteers accurately maintain quality standards for sorting and packing boxes.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work space.

Skills Needed:

  • Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Pallet jack experience is an asset.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis.
  • Sense of humor and ability to engage with groups of 5 to 10 people.

Other Requirements:

  • Fill out a volunteer application form for the GVFB.
  • As part of our GVFB volunteer intake process, you must attend an orientation session.
  • Complete a Criminal record check; this is free of charge for a volunteer.
