Board Role Description - Director - Development (Grants & Fundraising)

The Director responsible for Development (Grants and Fundraising) is responsible for researching, writing and submitting proposals for grants to fund projects, initiatives and general operations. Works closely with the Chair and Farm Manager to understand needs, develop proposals and ensure compliance with grant guidelines. Strong writing, research and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations and other funding sources (i.e., corporations) that align with FLT’s mission, vision and goals.
• Collaborate with Farm Manager and Board Chair to develop grant proposals that clearly articulate the organization’s objectives, activities, outcomes and budget requirements.
• Writing compelling grant proposals, including narratives, budgets and supporting documents, that effectively communicate FLT’s needs and objectives.
• Manage the entire grant application process from initial research and proposal development to submission and follow-up.
• Cultivate relationships with potential funders, including government agencies, foundations, corporations and individual donors, to enhance FLT’s grant funding opportunities.
• Prepare and submit grant reports to funders, detailing project progress, outcomes achieved and financial expenditures compliance with grant requirements.
• Work with Farm Manager to ensure that the grant funded activities are conducted and tracked in accordance with grant agreements, regulations, and reporting requirements.
• Continuously research funding trends and opportunities and develop strategic plans (with Chair) to maximize grant funding for FLT’s operations and initiatives.

• Strong research, organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a collaborative Google workspace environment and proficiency with online forms, saving, organizing and filing work product.
• Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting financial statements and budgets.
• Farming or gardening experience.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Preference will be given to candidates from equity deserving groups.
