We are a producers' co-operative growing and providing 100% BC-grown vegetable, herb, flower, and grain seed that is ecologically grown and certified organic, open-pollinated, regionally selected, and GE-free. Board Members

The BC Eco Seed Co-op is looking for energetic, committed and talented community members who are passionate about helping to build a robust seed cooperative of provincial growers to increase the quantity and improve the quality of ecological and organic seed grown in British Columbia. We are a dynamic group that gets things done! For more information about us read more here.

We’re looking for 2-4 new board members who are excited to be a part of strengthening the co-op for years to come. We have a passionate board, a strong staff team, a fantastic membership and a revised business plan needing an implementation plan. Seed may be your passion, totally new to you or somewhere in between, wherever your familiarity is, we’re looking for folks interested in sharing their skills and time to help grow a seed company. Directors are volunteer positions and elected to a two-year term.

Qualifications — You’re a dream candidate for us if you

  • have excellent skills in business development, business plan implementation, and/or strategic thinking.
  • have strong interpersonal and communication skills and you love collaboration and consensus.
  • have a solid understanding of board and cooperative governance.
  • live in BC and can bring a regional perspective.

Key Responsibilities

In addition to upholding rules and regulations as outlined by the Cooperative Association Act, and the BC Eco Seed Co-op Rules, the board is responsible to:

  1. Provide oversight and care for the co-op by overseeing assets including financial accountability and the people involved as well as engage in strategic planning to set direction.
  2. Hire, oversee and support and co-op staff and provide direction for management.
  3. Maintain good records of all interactions of the Board and make decisions in a timely manner.
  4. Support membership review, approval and onboarding for members and directors.
  5. Participate in one of the BC Eco Seed Co-op’s Committees, acting as a point person reporting to the Board on behalf of the group.

In all co-op business, directors are expected to actively participate in sharing informed opinions and recommendations, exercise good judgment, act with integrity, and respect confidentiality.

Time Commitment

Monthly commitment is approximately 3-5 hours including the monthly 1 hour board meetings. There may be some additional time required for special projects and for executive positions.
