Sorauren Farmers’ Market is a non profit organization and a welcoming hub providing wholesome fresh food and community connection since 2008. We provide support to local sustainable farmers and producers and work opportunities for those marginalized from the labour market. Generating relationships and dialogue around gardening, sustainable farming and healthy food and implementing measures to lessen the Market’s environmental impact are core aims.

SFM is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, self motivated team member to help us grow and to have fun with us this summer!

Ideally, we aim to onboard the successful candidate early June 2022, operating from home and from Sorauren Park at 50 Wabash Avenue in the Roncesvalles Village/North Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto, as programming dictates.

SFM Business Development Officer

• Hours: 25-35 hours/week and up to 270 hours total. Primarily daytime work with the possibility of occasional evening & weekend shifts.
• Pay: $18.00 /hr
• Start: June 2022
• Finish: August 2022
• Duration: 9 week contract
• Attire: Casual
• Other: Laptop computer is an asset.

Funding Eligibility Criteria:

• 20-30 years old
• legally entitled to work in Canada
• some post-secondary education

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Help to promote and support the implementation of the Market’s new projects for 2022: Indigenous Ecological Knowledge Initiative and BIPOC New Farmer Initiative.
• Research funding opportunities through both the government and private sector including grants, sponsorship and fundraising, help develop the Market’s sponsorship package.
• Set up and tear down the market on Mondays, help out at the information desk, support volunteers and vendors.
• Assist with the development of general marketing ideas and materials, prepare and conduct market surveys to evaluate customers experience and desires for the future to ensure market relevancy in changing times.
• Prepare articles for the market newsletter and blog and assist with social media marketing.
• Work with our community partner, FOSP (Friends of Sorauren Park) as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED

• Business development, research and marketing skills
• Excellent written communication skills across various media
• Computer literate with experience working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and navigation of social media platforms.
• Networking, community building, engagement skills
• Accountable, collaborative, empathetic, respectful and kind!
• Available Monday afternoons/evenings and some weekends

QUALIFICATIONS – DESIRABLE

• Experience working in a non-profit environment a definite asset
• Experience with fundraising
• Experience with volunteer recruitment and coordination
